About Jonathan
Jonathan is a Charles Ching Scholar of 2022. Jonathan joined Chambers in the same year after completing his pupillage with Mr Kumar Ramanathan SC, Mr Andrew Raffell, Mr Giles Surman, Mr Robin Egerton and Mr Hew Yang-Wahn. He had previously served as marshal to the Hon Chu JA (now VP), the Hon Zervos JA and HHJ A Tse Ching (as Family Court Judge).
Jonathan is developing a mixed practice with a particular focus on family law. He has worked on a wide range of matrimonial finance and children matters, including applications under GMO and DCRVO, applications for relocation, MPS and litigation funding, parentage declaration, non-disclosure of sensitive information, Hadkinson Order, reciprocal enforcement of foreign orders and costs, as well as CDRs and FDRs (court, private and mediator-assisted). He regularly advises on cross-cultural marriages, same-sex marriages/unions, unmarried couples and foster parents. He also offers pro-bono advice to NGOs and clients in need.
In addition to his family practice, Jonathan is also instructed to work on chancery and civil matters involving trusts, land, defamation, wills and probate, enforcement, contempt and applications under the Mental Health Ordinance. On the criminal side, he is well versed with experience in defending offences against the person, sexual offences (including underage sex, indecent assault, rape), industrial summonses, dangerous drugs offences, immigration offences, public housing offences, white-collar crimes etc.
Jonathan is fluent in English, Cantonese and Mandarin and is capable of preparing submissions, advice and documents in both Chinese and English.
